Using pop-up flash + external

If anything is mount on the hot shoe, the on board flash will not pop up fully -- precluding it from being used as an on axis fill.

I have a radio transmitter and a hot shoe extender; neither of these allow enough room for the on board flash to lift all the way up.

Does anyone know of a device that has a low profile that will let the on board flash pop up fully?

If you're using a K5, you could utilize the pc socket. If not, I would recommend a wireless flash, and use the flip up as a master.

You could start with this:
New SC-2 Flash Hot Shoe Adapter for Canon Nikon Pentax | eBay
You may need to mod it if it's not tall enough, but it's just a little plastic box. Add plastic in between the two halves to make it taller. The wireless transmitter is very light and doesn't add much stress to the shoe.
