Remote controls scarce?

Anyone why Pentax Remote Control F seems to be so scarce? It is a simple accessory, why should it be so rare?

Thanks

I don't know but I'd sell you mine cheap. I have the remote F and an old cabled release, actually a Canon, and I much prefer the cabled release. To use the remote F requires some camera adjustments. To use the cable release requires that I plug it in. For me, it's much simpler.

Camera adjustments meaning changing the position of the camera or just changing the shooting mode to remote? Does a generic plugin trigger also trip autofocus?

I might actually be interested.

When I bought mine before christmas in Toronto, the store had lots.

They should be available, also there is a cable release for about the same price

Also, doesn't the Remote F release "time-out" after only 5 minutes or so?

I bought the Pentax F remote for my K10D from a local camera shop for $29.00. Bought a wired remote off of Ebay made in Japan for $9.98....awesome. I then bought a wireless remote on Ebay specifically for the Pentax K10D that is good for more than 30 metres. Cost me $14.98. Works really well and both items bought from Japan are of the highest quality. I think if I did it again, I would buy the wireless remote off of Ebay.....Best value and forget the other two. Just my .02 worth.

I got the F remote for Christmas. It works great for my needs, but it's really small. Very easy to misplace. Of course, if you have the battery grip there's a natural compartment, but otherwise, the thing is worse than lens caps.

I do have the grip so that would be useful. That wired one on ebay, im not so good with recognizing plugs, can it be extended easily? Can I go to radioshack and get a nice long extension cord for it pretty cheaply? If so it might be perfect.

Cheers!

As far as I know it's just a 2.5mm mini stereo plug. Shouldn't be hard to extend....
The Pentax plug and the one for the Canon EOS Rebel series are the same as well.

Pentax Wireless Remote Control E

The Pentax Wireless Remote Control E ($25) will also work just fine with the K10D. Of course, the smaller button for electronic zooming (a feature of most P&S cameras) has no effect on the K10D, but the primary shutter release button works exactly the same as that on the Pentax Remote Control F. The two remotes are the same size and either will fit into the (BG2) battery grip for the K10D. They're also cosmetically identical except for the smaller zoom button.

By the way, don't have an answer for why the Remote Control F is so scarce. Perhaps simply demand outstripping supply.
