This Week's Project... Custom Pentax Strap

I do admit that when I see Canikon users running around with their nice, wide and long neckstaps, I feel a little jealous... Pentax really doesn't offer anything thick and comfortable that can hold a heavy camera. I find that the "kit" straps don't live up to my expectations and are a little plain... but I'm going to try and fix that...

Here's a quick sketch of what I'll be working on this week:

I'm either going to try a dark charcoal buttery-soft leather or some nice heavy-duty cloth for the top, some sort of anti-slip material for the bottom (similar to those things you put under rugs), black leather at the ends, and small nylon dog collars for the actual strap that is fastened to the camera. Lettering and design will be done by a sewing machine which receives a signal of what to stitch from the computer.

Hopefully it won't turn out that bad...

What do you guys think of the design, any suggestions?

Looks Great!!

You might even want to consider a 'Pentax Forums' strap... I think SlickYamaha was selling T-shirts and heck a strap to go with it would just be down right cool.

Now to find someone how does embroidery on hats and we could create a uniform

Great idea. Looks great overall, not a fan of the "I love my" part but it's your stap not mine.

Personally, I like to stay as inconspicuous as possible and avoid brightly colored straps or straps that advertise the brand to potential thieves.

If it's just comfort you're looking for, you might try one of the weight-distributing neoprene straps or a "Black Rapids"-style quick release shoulder strap, which is what I use. There's a ton of different strap options out there.

Cheers,
Bobbo :-)

Thanks!
SlickYamaha's shirts would look nice with a strap...

I think I'd pass on the hat, thanks. Pentaxians don't wear uniforms- they're best left for the Boy Scouts.

I do sometimes get a little paranoid going out somewhere with lots of people with my camera. It's times like that that I take one of those really old and ugly "hippie" straps and use the VF to make it appear like I've got a film camera.

I will be sure to check those straps out, thanks!

That's a nice design. Wonder what Adam would say about it?

Yeah, I'd rather have "Pentax - when Nikon just won't do".

Interesting just me then , I've gone totally the opposite way when it comes to straps and have done for many years.

I use the original thin, long, plain (no logo or lettering), black straps that came with the LX. I even bought a couple more recently BNIB off Ebay.

I guess it's good that we are not all the same.

... Yeah

I think the only problem with this design would be getting such detail in the camera. But otherwise I like it

I think yes this design would have its takers for sure.. but I think it is just a bit plain. I like a little bit of uniqueness (probably one of the many reasons I went for pentax in the first place)
