Its also pretty much the dumbness of masses. If many humans eat crap many more will follow to eat crap just because they see all those others doing it and thinking for yourself is "too much effort". "They" can't be wrong. It makes dumb people feel comfortable.
I bet 90% of Canon sales actually is caused by this. And not only in the entry level segment.
We "all know" Lady gaga makes better music than Mozart and Microsoft makes better Desktop operating systems than anyone else...
Compare their market share against competitors.
Let's make up some huge sales figures and send them to Cnet. Once they pick it up the ball will be rolling.

If it's so simple, then it should be easy for Pentax to replicate that success.

That's all well and good until the shareholders start asking where that revenue is, and government regulators start asking where the revenue is, and public trust is lost in the company. Enron was brought down by cooking the books, and executives can and will go to jail for shenanigans like this.

Sorry, forgot the smiley... I meant it to come out as sort-of-sarcasm, when I read the big C's 90%.

The ironic thing about the Pentax K5, K7,K20, K10, is that when they come out, they are the top of the line for the Pentax lineup, and therefore have all the deluxe features that Pentax can think of. When the D7000 came out, and i looked at it pretty seriously, it lacked some of those extra features. Some folks said that was so it wouldn't overlap onto the D300 series, but i don't know. With Pentax, there is no overlap with other camera models since the K5 and 645D are in different market niches.
+1 to this. The big gap between Pentax's entry, enthusiast and pro-level models in the market now actually make the "choosing a camera" less complicated.
I also got confused as to how they said the D7000 wasn't entirely replacing the D90 but just going one step above it (then they discontinued the latter...)

Are you talking about being successful or about eliminating mass dumbness? Make up your mind.

Canon is successful. If Pentax is attempting to eliminate mass dumbness, maybe that is the reason they are not successful.

Canon is losing market share, and recently fired their CEO. Pentax doesn't need such success.

Canon will need to lose a *lot* of market share to even drop to #2. Meanwhile, Pentax has stopped existing as an independent corporation, so it doesn't need anything anymore. Ricoh, on the other hand, could use some success.

And my experience with 90% of Canon users is absolutely in sync with this: uneducated, weak personalities trying to compensate by aggressiveness towards others. Follower types. Sheep.
A pretty bold statement here...
