Our Poor K-x

We sold our white K-x to a friend's sibling on Friday night. Less than 24 hours later we see the following picture on FB:

Our poor K-x got pimped! What the hell kind of flash is that? Somehow I don't think it's P-TTL compatible.

Is that a k-mount adapter that I see? I didn't even know there were k-mount adapters (other than for attaching medium-format glass).

I'm baffled as to what lens that is. Any guesses?

I have a bad feeling this newbie went to a pawn shop or something and was talked into putting whatever on thier camera (our poor old K-x).

The flash I have no clue. The "adapter" looks to be a teleconverter. My promaster 1.7x looks a lot like that. And again no idea on the lens.

Ah... teleconverter. Now that makes sense.

Flash looks like a Vivitar 285HV (actually, no it isn't). I hope for his sake it has modern voltage or he could fry the electronics. FWIW, that flash is a classic workhorse. The basic design must be at least 30 years old. (I ahve one for my K series cameras).

The lens is some kind of Tamron. I'd guess a cheap 70-300 of some sort.

The flash appears to have a secondary reflector and manual zoom head.

An old flash... I do hope it's compatible with the K-x, otherwise like the others said it may fry the K-x's insides.... The lens indeed looks like a Tamron 70-300, based from the focus ring.

The teleconverter and flash are both Quantarays. The converter is an AF 2x and the flash is probably a QTB-7500A.

It's not a bad flash even if it isn't P-TTL compatible.

The lens is most likely a Quataray as well. They just rebadged Tamron and Sigma lenses over the years.

Here is the usual go to reference for trigger voltages. I'll admit that I have, and use, a similar looking Vivitar flash, which I picked up in a thrift shop for $0.50. It works fine, trigger voltage is fine, but of course it is manual only. There is a lot of variation in trigger voltages within the brand name, so it would be wise for him to check before continuing to use it.

I agree on the Vivitar flash, my old Vivitar has the same blue ring and it works fine with the K-x. Yes I checked the voltage. I think mine is a 2800. Don't have it with me to check the model number, I have 3 I think...one is loaned out to a friend to use with his Nikon. My newer Vivitar does not have the blue ring but also works, voltage is somewhere around 5V I think. Ditto for the older one. None were above about 7 V if I remember correctly, including a Minolta unit.
