Black Bar - ist-DL shutter failure?

I've been searching the forum and websites to find out if this could be a shutter failure. Some of the posts mention that if its a shutter failure then the black bar will be of different size when the shutter speed is changed. I've tried taking pictures at different speeds but the black bar remains the same.

I did a sensor cleaning mirror lockup to see whats going on and saw that the sensor is covered about the same amount as the black bar. So I'm guessing the shutter is getting stuck at that spot? This also started happening when I moved the memory card out of the K-7 into the ist-DL and took few shots with it. Could it be that the camera firmware got corrupted by the SD card from K-7?

Did my beloved first camera finally die? I know its an old camera and may not be worth the repairs but because it is my first camera it has a certain sentimental value and if I'd really appreciate some help with the repair.

Maybe your mirror does not go up all the way.

its not the mirror. Attaching this shot I took with my cell phone to show the sensor with the mirror locked up. I think its the shutter failure. Is it easy to fix?

In june of 2008 my K 10 did something similar, but the shutter failed as you thought it would, with the bar changing width, as shutter speed increased above syc. it cost $325 for a new shutter, mirror assembly and lens mount. I would be prepared for a similar bill for your DS. time for soul searching, because the only real value the *istDS has is the TTL flash capability, if you don;t use flash and legacy lenses, i don't see the point

I've already settled on a upgrade but I really liked this camera so thought if it was an easy fix I was going to attempt it myself or if its a cheap fix send it in for repairs. Thank you for the responses.
