K10D Help

Hi guys, I've bought the K10D mid November 2007 with the 16-45mm F4 Kit. Updated to firware 1.3. I've got CS2. The question is, does the converted JPG from CS2 fare better than sharpness +2 and contrast -1 setting? I mean, have done a test shot using DNG+JPG and converted the DNG to JPG then compared the two JPG. I found that the JPG as shot was sharper than the converted one. So, I'm curious about the edge sharpness, although I have yet to find fault in my 4X6 prints, composition and white balance aside. What are your settings for sharpness and contrast? And what software to use to get the best pixel sharpness from the raw files? I'm still just a beginner so any advice would be welcome.

Hi

What sharpening are you applying to the raw image in your processing ?

I use Silkypix and Photoshop Elements. I apply a small amount of sharpening in the raw conversion; save as TIFF;open in PSE and crop and resize, and then finally apply the unsharp mask to achieve final sharpness, before saving as JPEG.

My out of camera jpg';s are fine at default settings.

I set sharpening for any raw around 25-30

I use CS2 and ran through all the sharpening, contrast, brightness variations (min to max) while comparing the preview at 100% to the camera JPEG. Yeah, I like to see cleaner images and apply my own unsharp mask, but seem to already get my raw soft at the start with CS2 and increasing sharpening contrast only helps a little. May I should use default settings for sharpness and contrast. I thought raw files were not affected by the sharpness and contrast settings.

Thanks alot guys guys! I just hope it's not my lense, I also notice the 8 point star from long exposure is fanned out clockwise. Don't know if its normal.
