Two. cameras in my amazon cart

I currently have a K-5 and a K-01 in my amazon cart. I can only afford one of the two. Convince me. I'm pulling the trigger before I leave for school in the morning. 1-2-3-GO!

Well, we don't know what you plan to shoot, what lenses you intend to use, your level of experience, is video important...

I'd choose the K-5.

K-5, then get the K-01 once you can afford it

Lenses I have now: DA 18-55mm AL II, SMC Pentax M 35mm f/2.8, Vivitar 28mm f/2.8, SMC 50mm f/1.7, Promaster AF 100-300mm f/5-6.3, SMC Pentax-FA 28-90mm f/3.5

Video is only somewhat important, but I could imagine it becoming more important once I start playing around with my old lenses again. I shoot everything from concerts to foggy sunrises and pretty much everything else. I'm no pro, but I know what I'm doing. My first camera was a Pentax ME Super. I've never owned a Pentax Digital, I've never even held one because there isn't a brick and mortar dealer anywhere near me. I'm just tired of my Canon XT, today is new camera day, and I'm going Pentax.

OK, from what I've read, it seems that the K-01 has some AF issues with larger, slower lenses, and even the long end of a 18-55. I don't know if this will (can) be fixed with a firmware update. This pushes me even more to recommend the K-5.

So far in my experience the K-01 with Focus Peaking is a charm with any MF lens up to 200mm; is made for small lenses like your M's and would be great with the 24~90, I think. The button placements aren't as bad as everyone says (especially the Green Button) if you hold it like a dSLR, with two hands (not with 2 fingers and two thumbs. The LCD is quite visible in the sun (I'll bet people who say it isn't don't have one) and produces great images

If you want a small documentary and/or street camera this is great. If you need the full features get the K-5, especially at the current price. You can probaly get the K-01 for a bit less money in a few months and have a dual-camera kit.

Did it. K-5. Spending a thousand bucks by clicking a button is so anticlimactic. I need a drink.

I did the same a couple days ago. My K-5 and DBG-4 grip will be at my doorstep tomorrow. Congrats! Enjoy the camera and drink.
