Samsung GX20 = Pentax K?D

The new Samsung GX20 announced on PentaxLife, may be a clue to the new Pentax model.

The specs are nothing new. And yes, the GX20 will be K20D's brother.

If I was Pentax though I'd be REALLY PISSED that Samsung let the cat out of the bag. Afterall, Samsung's camera is derivative of the Pentax one (as far as I understand the relationship anyway)... But then maybe Pentax held something back for the K20D that will be a real surprise...

Or maybe both Samsung and Pentax held something back, and this is just a teaser.

While the specs certainly look competent (based on K10D with additional 14.6 megapixel, 2.7″ LCD, ISO-3200, LiveView, $1200 estimated price tag, etc), there is still no mention of this new "GX-20" on the Samsung web site. Therefore, this may be nothing more than another one of the many rumors floating around the internet at the moment.

By the way, while LiveView doesn't really interest me, the additional megapixels and ISO-3200, combined with a $1200 or eventually lower price, might actually tempt me to buy a camera like this. My K10D would then serve as a solid, reliable, backup body for it. Of course, the decision would depend a lot on how well image quality holds up with those extra megapixels and increased ISO range.

Nothing much was revealed though. The few lines description is just a teaser. To be honest, the leaks about K20D since the end of last year were probably done on purpose by Pentax. Otherwise, they wouldn't show the camera to so many people.

stewart: the Samsung info was real, it was released prematurely (intentional or not) by an official Samsung authorized dealer in Norway (later deleted from their web page). So the chance that it was a fake was low.

In addition, a few people under NDA have publicly stated that K20D does NOT share the max ISO 3200 specs. Since it can't possibly be ISO 1600, I believe K20D will sport an ISO 6400.

I'm not sure on this seeing as Samsung should again have subtle differences... maybe some that may be a not so subtle.

It's better to wait than speculate!

I sure hope so. And this time, the Samsung had better be cheaper.

This wasn't intentional -- the Samsung info leaked out and was pulled from its original source after a few hours. So Samsung is probably upset too, but yeah I bet Pentax isn't happy given how well they've protected their info so far.

If the Gx-20 and the k20d are going to be the same would it be worth the extra bit of money just for the pentax name. im a bit on edge about switching to anything but a true pentax. how much you think i could sell my k10 for to upgrade or should i just save up and keep it as an extra body.

Let's just hop the battery grip (dbg2)from the K10d will fit on the K20d since I'm not interested in having to pay for a body and a grip.

I don't think it will. I think that little bit has been confirmed.
