Lost a good photography friend today

This morning I put my Pentax sling bag with my K200D inside up on the top shelf of my hall closet while I was shooting a photo with my new K5. During the set up I heard a loud thump in the hall and found the sling bag laying on the slate floor. Everything inside appeared ok, but when I turned on the K200D the LCD looked like a fish skeleton with no display. I blame myself after three years of friendship I have neglected my old friend lately. Being put on that closet shelf may have been to much for it, and I think it may have jumped. He will be missed.

@Schmidlapper - I am so sorry for your loss. I have been hearing about a lot of suicides as of late, it is just so tragic. I think we all need to step back and think about the ones that we are neglecting - sometimes we are just too reckless in the things that we do and our actions do affect others. I think today I will grasp and hold some of my old bodies close to me...

Sorry to hear. This might have to mean you replace it with a K-r or another K-5.

Time To Go

Hello Schmidlapper,
My condolences to you and your Pentax family for the loss.
In your time of grief it may be improper to say this, but it was definitely suicide.
The neglect, plus the jealousy over the attention paid to a new family addition, are majors factors. Sibling rivalry is a powerful emotional stress inducer.
Perhaps your tragedy will serve as a warning and lesson to the Pentax community. Treat ALL your family of Pentax members (and let's not forget the stepchildren, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc) with respect, dignity and compassion.
Best wishes and a hope for a better future,
Ron

Do cameras have souls?

If they do, I am sure you will meet again. In the happy hunting grounds my friend...

"Return to me soon, my digital first love!"

I agree with amorificus, give it a nice funeral with eulogy on a certain auction site.

I've pulled my K-x out of its bag and shot a few photos with it today, thanks for the cautionary tale!

So you are saying in Billy Crystals words from The Princes Bride "He's mostly Dead"? Wow I watched the video and can see where it is technically achievable, at least on a pocket camera. It looked a little daunting, as maybe heart surgery would to a brick. I put a focus screen in it once, I don't know if I can face cutting it open another time. I think I will have it stuffed and put it with my other old cameras, in the book case graveyard.

My k200d is still my trusty cohort. He jump out of my lap once when I was getting out of the car. I think he was just upset that I forgot that he was there. Thank goodness he's built like a tank.

This is an important lesson. The K200D comes out tomorrow from hibernation for a few trial shots. It won't be alone. Two MX bodies will also be used through the shutter and aperture cycle. The OP's post was a salutary warning to keep all and any mechanical or electronic goods in periodic use even if they are mothballed.

Something must have made it fall off that shelf. But alas, the shake reduction was not enough to save it.
