They're not completely generic - my friend's Nikon D7000 hotshoe cover did not fit my K5 properly.

Thank you all for your help. The assistance given here is nothing short of remarkable.

I have now purchased two (yes, two - just in case I lose one) generic protector covers complete with bubble level at the unbelievable price of $AU3.38 for both of them free post from Hong Kong. Amazing!

Can I get a camera-shaped mini-hotshoe cover for the mini-hotshoe on the mini-camera on the hotshoe of my actual camera?

oh man, that bubble level would be cool but it would only work in landscape mode.

There is a 3-way bubble level too. Perhaps it would do the trick for you?
