I lost my K10D's hot-shoe protector.

After 4.5 years of being very careful I have finally lost/misplaced the hot-shoe protector cover from my K10D. I have never had one of these before as my previous cameras were Spotmatics with clip-on accessory cold-shoes.

I assume I am not alone in losing this small piece of black plastic. Should I be worried? Should I try to get a replacement? Or should I just get over it and move on and forget about it?

What did you do when you lost yours?

Buy an external flash to cover it? JK

I removed mine, since I use external flash or triggers so I leave it off. You can get one on ebay if you really dont want to look at the hot shoe.

I lost the hotshoe cover for my K10 in about 5 minutes No really, I lost it early on and used it for years without a problem. This includes my hikes/backpacking trips and plenty of rain. If you're feeling paranoid, replace it, if not I would roll with out it.

I love this forum - took all of 3 minutes to get an answer!

Thanks for that info, Larry. I did not even think of looking on eBay for such a small item. And I did not realise that they were generic. I probably should have.

The cover is cosmetic and in no way affects weather sealing

Thank you for your replies, abieleck and twitch. That is what I was hoping to hear.

Problem is that I am a bit paranoid and I don't like things being incomplete.

Further searching on eBay has revealed that hot-shoe covers are readily available and can be had with spirit levels on them (single and two-way) and that is something that I can use. I'll bet I will be the only one in my group with one of those!

So, I am glad I asked the question.

I have several, if you're willing to wait I could post one to you (they're from old ZX-30s but they fit my K-5).

On the other hand, you could replace it with a bubble level that fits in that spot - I have one on my K-5 and its a great help at times.

I wrote and was interrupted and you found them for yourself so, never mind.

Yes, I've seen them there when doing other searches. As I recall they're around $5-6.

It's called the HotShoe cover FK - and the cheap imitations don't fit right - and can damage the little springy metal in the hot shoe.

Pentax Hotshoe Cover FK for Penatx Q (Replacement) 31040

They fit ALL Pentax cameras. I think the SF series had a slightly different one.

FK cover fits (and is OEM) on all the Digital bodies.

Well, I have never seen one of those before. I guess the best word to describe them is "CUTE". Thanks for sharing those with us.

And I hope you don't mind if I don't buy one!!

Thanks for the link but, yes, I did find them myself. And I'll probably get a two-way one rather than the bubble level. Just my preference.

You know what...I'm rather glad now that I lost my cover and then posed this question on the forum. Otherwise I would never have known that this type of nifty device existed. It must have been fate!

No K10D! Did you say no K10D?

That sounds like discrimination to me.
