K100D blew up!

Really, it did. I was taking a picture of the kids playing on the bed. The on camera flash was up and as soon as I hit the shutter release there was a loud bang/pop. Sounded like a .22lr going off. Now the flash isn't working. It would appear that the flash bulb failed.

The camera is out of warranty . Does anyone know how one goes about getting it repaired. Does it have to go to Pentax? Approximately how much does it cost?

If its going to cost more than $50, you might try buying a used external flash on ebay or somewhere.

Yep, if you need a flash, I would get an external flash, and forget about the internal one. It will probably cost as much or more to get that fixed than a new halfway decent auto flash would be.

Mine is currently in the shop for the exact same thing. The flash bulb blew, just before the holidays. Knowing it would not get fixed in a week, I got a 360 and I'm glad I did. I am just getting it fixed because it is under warranty and in case I ever decide to sell it. If it wasn't, I wouldn't bother.

I had lithium batteries in the unit at the time and battery meter was low. They both died at the same time, so I'm wondering if the batteries dying caused the bulb to blow.

I've had my batteries dye while using the pop-up flash, without any problems.
Considering where I was an explosion would not have been a good thing

Yep. It scared the jeepers out of everyone.

I will be getting an external flash unit, but want to get it fixed in case I ever do sell it camera. Does anyone know the approximate cost of repairing the flash bulb?

I will ask when I go and pick up my camera this week, hopefully.
