Questions about K10D

just got a Pentax K10D last weekend, and I'm a complete newbie to digital cameras. I have a couple of questions to start. First, why does the image preview sometimes not come up in Pentax Lab? And if I put my files on highest compression will I be able to upload them into Picturetrail? In addition, is there another website that anyone can suggest I upload images into. Thanks.

Photo Lab only works with RAW files. If you are using Photo Browser that is showing both JPGs and PEFs, make sure you are selecting the RAW version to look at in Photo Lab. preview.

Never heard of Picturetrail. Flickr and Photobucket seem to be the most popular host sites from what I see on the forums. There are limitations with both, but I stayed with Photobucket because I can sort files by name (they start with the date, so I want them chronological) which is not possible with Flickr. Flickr is more suited to making galleries such as "flowers" and "dogs", I think. You can rearrange the sequence by dragging I think, though it is not practical with 1000 images...

Picasa is another hosting site as well which you might consider. I use Flickr, and like SpecialK mentioned you can create "sets" and "collections" by dragging photos around and arranging them in groups. The interface is a bit slow, and there is no explorer-type interface to sort your files with.

Overall it's okay though.

Other option include and (pbase is a bit expensive, IMHO).

Thanks guys. I was looking at a RAW file when trying to see the pic in Preview. I wonder if there's a bit of a memory shortage on my computer and there's just a lag and I'm being too impatient.

What are the largest size photos that you can load into Photobucket? The files that I have now are pics that I took as JPEG (4 MB, 3872 x 2592) and RAW files that haven't yet been converted, which range from 9.5 to 14.5 MB.

File sizes for Photobucket

Are there Maximum file sizes or lengths?

For Free Photobucket accounts the limits are:

Images - 1MB each
Slideshows - up to 25 images per slideshow (each slideshow varies)
Videos - 5 minutes playing time, 100 MB file size.
For Pro Photobucket accounts the limits are:

Images - 5MB each
Slideshows - up to 50 images per slideshow (each slideshow varies)
Videos - 10 minutes playing time, 100 MB file size.

From the FAQ files.

I use Flickr, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I got a free Flickr Pro account since I am a ATT/Yahoo DSL subscriber.
