So I am staying

So after much internal debate I have bought a K20d, I had myself convinced to get a d3200 but after discussing it with my wife I was going to get a used K-X and buy by the K-r replacement when it came out. KEH had a K-X for $370 and I looked over at B&H they had the K20d for $399 about $70 cheaper then KEH. I got it a couple of days ago so far it seems really good. Shutter count is about 16,000 and it seems to be in good condition. No complaints on its rating and it had all the accessories in the box. I like the size of it and it seems really sturdy. Also got a 50mm Sigma manual focus marco from KEH to go with it. So I am pretty much set for right now. I would like to add a 135mm telephoto to the mix esp it I can find a "A" lens for a reasonable price, but they seem hard to find. Taking it out tomorrow to really test it out.

You can't go wrong with the K20D... I'm not biased or anything

My only issue with the K20D is the poor high ISO performance relative to it's younger brethren, but that's fine... if it comes to it ISO800 is manageable, heh.

That said, have fun tomorrow! You'll definitely enjoy what you got!

The thing that really surprised me is its size, compared to the d3000 and t3 I picked up at walmart they felt like toys, and thats a concern with the K-R replacement, I may have to hold out for the K-5 replacement.

The K20D was the Pentax flagship model for a good couple years - it's far from a "toy"

the only complaint I have with the K10D and K20D is the shutter is a little loud.

other than that, for what the camera was at the time, it is a good body and a solid camera. Perhaps by today's standards, the high ISO is not so good, but compared to what it replaced, the high ISO is gar superior. I have shot the K7 (same sensor) regularly at ISO 1600.

Be sure to have a look at GordonBGood's excellent K20 magenta cast removal tool (follow the thread here), as it will improve your high-iso shots dramatically!
