Pentax K-x autofocus in dark lighting

Question: If you are in a relatively low light situation and want to be able to use the flash for focus assist only (not exposure), is there any way to do so?

Yes, ensure you are in AF-S. Raise the flash. Half press to focus: the flash will strobe until focus is locked. Keep half pressing once focus is locked and close the flash. Take your picture.
