shake reduction

I just read in a review that if the shake reduction on the k10d fails, so does the camera.

Myth???

Got a link to that review? Sounds like something from RH.

I can't find it.

I looked at dozens of items tonight and it got lost in the maze of pages I crossed over.

I should correct myself in saying, it was a forum, and not a review.

It felt like a hearsay remark, but I just wanted to check with this forum to see if anyone very familiar with the camera has either heard or experienced this.

I'm pretty sure it would but as a mechanical assembly it's probably one of the most robust in the camera. My thoughts are that the driver electronics would have to leak their smoke before it all ground to a halt. ;-)

I've never heard of any case where the SR 'failed' in the sense that it stopped working completely and killed the camera along with it.

I've never heard of any case where the SR 'failed' at all. It's a great system when it works. And it does. All the time... Who needs more expensive lenses?

The SR system fails? That's news to me as mine works just fine and am glad the camera has this feature, not just the lens as some other brands.

Beware of blanket statements and silly comments made in forums.

Depends on which part of the SR system that fails, but it's possible. Also be warned that the mirror, shutter, CPU, lightmeters, batteries, buttons, dials or memory might also affect the cameras function in case of failure.
