A recent convert from Canon to the pentax k-5 and i have not been disappointed with my purchase at all. I shot primarily with the 5d and 5dmark2 before getting the K-5 and although there are some tradeoffs (fullframe) i have enjoyed every minute with my k-5. Its a hell of a camera for the price, and i love the pentax system. Take the plunge you wont be sorry.

Well done for crossing over to the Pentax side.By the sounds of it,you haven't regretted this at all.I went for the K5 and have used it nearly everyday since I got it the other day.Have tried my Metz flash unit.It works a charm. And the features that the K5 has,I'm still learning them all,but that is the fun thing about what this camera can do and learn all the ins and outs and hopefully get take some great images.

You can wait forever. First K30 will actually hit the shelves and people would greet it with cheers and applauds. Then you would read the official reviews and something will catch your eye that won't be so pleasing. Then you will think that K-5 was a better idea. But at this time it would be more difficult to find one brand new. So you would look around and search and hunt. Then you would decide that you are better of buying K30. By that time early adopters will start getting their cameras and unofficial reviews will come in. May be few quirks in software or some hardware will pop up. Meanwhile the rumors of K-5's successor will become more palpable and you would be torn again - may be to wait for K-5's successor after all. And so this situation will continue indefinitely.

I say - if you have specific needs that are answered by current offerings on the market - go and buy yourself a camera. I believe that K-5 has been pretty much debugged. I have two of them and they work fine. There is no way to know when and how they will fail, but meanwhile my daughter and I are shooting and having fun along with getting some pictures we like. Why not join us?

K-30 now retails in the Philippines (in Manila, at least) for... $1162 equivalent.

Pentax K-30 is now available in our country for a whopping equivalent of 1162US$!

These cameras were assembled in our country. That's crazy!

I eventually want a K-5, but I want the price to drop even more. It's close though. I can't believe I used to dream about $3000 bodies from Canikon.

Well done on the sale.I think it's a now or never time to buy a new K5 with the price as it is and the K30,then soon the K5 replacement. That is what I did.I am enjoying the big step up from the K100D and it is a brilliant camera to use.

It won't drop as much for brand new... but when the K-5 replacement comes out, perhaps we can expect a wave of greatly-priced secondhand bodies (only if the successor is that much better than the K-5)

Coming from a K-r, I really want a K-5 for its superb DR and battery life, iso 80 which are way top notch, but I don't want to throw my K-r right away and would want to maximize my eneloops and it's AA adapter usable for the K-30, not to mention focus peaking and bonus video control.

I really shouldn't read these threads. Now there's a tiny thought in the back of my brain that says I should prepare to ditch the K7 and grab a K5 when they are on the way out. ie cheap.
Thanks, guys.....

Regards

The toughest part is waiting 6 hours for the battery to charge.
