I enquired about K5 in Davao last week, priced at PHP60,000 ... that's USD1530!

I still want one ... or its replacement - should be a significant upgrade from my K10D.
Is that price include a really good Pentax lens to go with it.If not, then I feel for you with that price.I can just imagine how much the K5 replacement will be for you when it is released there if the K5 is still that price.I would shop around on line if possible, to see if you can get a better deal.

I wish! No, that price is for the body only!

It seems to me that the price being charged here is still the original launch price in the west, so the K3 (or whatever) may not be much more expensive. I guess that I will be able to judge this when I find a K30 on sale.

As others have said, this is very frustrating since all my Pentax digital bodies proudly proclaim "Assembled in Philippines".

As for shopping around ... not so easy here - there is a lot less price competition, and very limited number of outlets. Usually, prices for tech stuff are close to the equivalent western list prices (without discount). Also, Internet shopping has not really taken off yet. It was only a year ago that I first found a Pentax dslr on sale here.

they all actually fall on one distributor only (the others are resellers - so they can't sell lower than the distributor itself). The only "competition" for Pentax sales in the Philippines is online selling.

One seller (online, though I think it's the same person from that distributor) offers the K-30 pre-sale for about Php50,000 (USD1162.7 equivalent).

I don't know if I should say this here but well, lol we should thank our customs and import laws for that. Stuff made in our lands are still considered imports, because they were made in an "export zone" I think? lol..... really uncool.

Pretty close the the US' 899. I guess that's alright. Being a mid-range camera, this should perform at least as good if not much better than the 60D and D5100.

Yes, but I take comfort from knowing that our launch price is not far from the US launch price. However, it is clear that there is no end-of-production discount for the older cameras, making the current K5 price less of a bargain than it is for you guys in the west.

What I'm really getting at is that my wait for the 'K3' is more justified. I look forward to the autumn (fall)! [English (American)]!

Current K-30 mall prices in the Philippines:

PENTAX K30 BODY P46,990/$1115

PENTAX K30 18-55 P49,990/$1186

PENTAX K30 2LENS KIT (18-55 / 55-250) P56,990/$1352

PENTAX K30 18-135WR P66,990/$1593

About $250-300 more here than in the US.

Cheers,

Nothing new, really

the $170 DA 35 f2.4 in the US is $404 in our malls. X_x I don't know why Camerahaus prices stuff that way.

Import duties maybe? But why so high?

Maybe it might have something to do with the value of the currency compared to the US dollar. Then on top of that, taxes might be higher in your part of the world. So there could be a few factor in play. It's just my guess.

I agree it's the taxes, and other "fees", and probably because they practically have a price monopoly here, unlike in the US.

Stupid question, but B&H, Adorama and Amazon are competing stores there right? And they have no umbrella distributor?
