I'm pissed

OK, how in the hell can a Pentax K20d switch the ISO setting from 100 to 3200 ON IT'S OWN!!!!!! I just did a photoshoot and all my setting showed 100 ISO. When I got home to check the photos they all were recorded at 3200 ISO. I'M LIVID RIGHT NOW. i didn't change any settings while shooting. A WHOLE DAY WORTH OF SHOOTING LOST AND POSSIBLY LOST A GOOD CLIENT. I'm pitching my K20d in the trash today. PENTAX SUCKS.

No, Auto ISO was not engaged. Even if it was we were shooting outdoors in a sunny environment. Don't even bother asking me to sell this piece of junk. I'm going to get more joy out of smashing the crap out of it with a baseball bat.

I will sell my lighting gear though because it's not pentax so that means it ACTUALLY WORKS.

Does the photo quality indicate it was shot at 3200 or was it just the exif written wrongly.

The photos are full of noise so it was recorded at 3200. Now I have to beg and plead with the client to redo the shoot and spend my own money to get the makeup artist and hair dresser to redo the shoot. I haven't heard anything from the contact yet. Now my reputation is ruined and my trust in my gear is destroyed. I can't in good concience promote myself as a photographer when my gear decides to have mind of it's own. I wouldn't even give my camera to my 2 year old daughter.

First of all, i am sorry this happened to you! Second, are the photos exposed properly? Dealing with the noise from the high iso is one thing, images that are completely blown is another. or as mtansley mentioned, it just might be a problem with the exif.

Oh and just so you know, don't be sorry, it's not your fault...just get the hell away from Pentax before it happens to you.

Well, don't go to Canon! A friend found his CF card empty after a shoot with a hard-to-wrangle NBA star... oh, but he recovered.

From the tone of your "less than sober reaction" to a glitch in a 4 year old piece of consumer electronics, maybe you should start?

I have found that sometimes depending on what mode my K-5 is in, I will go to adjust the aperture or shutter only to find out that I'm actually adjusting the ISO. Any chance that could have happened or the mode selector wasn't in the detent precisely?

Did you do an entire shoot without reviewing a single picture to make sure the exposure/focus/quality was OK first ?

What does the EXIF say about which camera mode was engaged, and other settings, besides ISO ?

No there was not chance of that. I would shoot 3 to 5 shots, then check to see where my setting were and then shoot 3 to 5 more photos. I kept checking to make sure my iso was set at 100, which it was.

Oh and as for the jerk commenting that I should start drinking because I'm angry over a 4 year old piece of equipment...I have many friends who own cameras that are as old if not older from Canon or Nikon and guess what....THEY WORK FLAWLESSLY. Ever since I bought my K20d I've had nothing but problems. So to tell me that it's due to the camera being old I have a suggestion for you...grab a frying pan and wack some sense into your cranium.
