K110-D Flash Bulb "Popped"

I've had my K110-D for a couple of years now.
The Flash Bulb "popped" one day and will not work.

I had the camera less than a year but only us it a few times a year and forgot about it.

I called a Camera Repair Shop and they said that only Pentax can repair it.
The repair price the shop quoted was $375... Yeoh !!!

Am I stuck with using a Manual/Auto Flash now?

Anybody have any advice?

just buy a compatible flash and attach it to the shoe. you will get better results anyway

the entry level metz is quite good without being overly large

Thanks.

I guess I'll use a nice Flash unit that can Diffuse, Angle and bounce, that I've had since the 80s, when I got into Pentax SLRs and used for friends Weddings.

I still have the book for it, but it was so simple to use and worked great with film.

$375 to repair..., I don't think I paid that much for the K110 Body when I bought it.
That's just Nuts.

Yep. The only time I use the built-in flash is when I absolutely have to because I don't have a separate flash unit handy. And even then, it's just for casual snapshots. Forget about getting good lighting with the built-in. A separate bounce unit is a bazillion times better.

I only used the Pop-up for snap shots of the Grand Kids when I was visiting out of state.
That was when it "Popped."
I never used it for anything any other time.
Probably less than 25 exposures with it when it Blew out.

If I didn't have so much invested in Pentax Lenses I would switch to another Brand.

Just be careful; trigger voltage might be way to high for a Pentax dSLR.

Oh yeah... You'll definitely want to check that. Anything higher than 12v is a no-no. Here's a list of trigger voltages. Otherwise, you can test with a multitester.

I am planning on a little DIY thing that uses my Fong Puffer-clone frame along with a 45 degree plastic mirror to bounce the flash off the ceiling. It might make the built-in flash actually useable.
