How much and when are the questions I'd like answers for.

Oh wait...I have to build up a lens collection first.

Well, I for one am excited about the camera. Better noise handling, higher ISO, being able to do timelapse, pc sync, it's a dream for portraits/studio work. And with higher DR, it could radically improve high contrast shots around sunset and sunrise. It seems that mostly it's the sports photographers who are being ignored...

Maybe the 'machine gun fps' mode could get tweaked to offer fewer frames per second with higher resolution. Something like 9fps @ ~3.7megapixels might be possible (I'm just playing with 21 * 1.6 / 9 = 3.7)... It'll be interesting to see what the firmware updates bring.

I believe professional cameras are good for pros and amateur cameras are good for amateurs - there is no shame not catering for the pro market and it certainly does not mean it is an inferior camera - and as we all know the Pentax does find its way into some pro's camera bags.

I want Pentax to stay just where it is - as an amateur camera because I can trust it will meet my needs.

cheers

Not sure thats entirely true Keith.

I know many "Pro" shooters using istD's and K10D's, including myself(i make money from my cameras). Just because they target the amateur does not mean the features are not there. Other than the fact my Nikons "Look" like pro cameras, they are in essence doing the same thing. Maybe my D2H focuses faster than my K10d, but its close enough to get the job done.

I don't care if Pentax goes like Nikon and produces a Pro and amateur body. I have enough of both.

The lens pricing and shipping dates are as follows:

* smc PENTAX DA* 200mm f/2.8 ED (IF) SDM will ship in March 2008 for $1099.95
* smc PENTAX DA* 300mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM will ship in May 2008 for $1299.95

I am guessing these are List Prices. Hoping street price around $999?
