Thanks!

Nice, I have linked to the YouTube on my Facebook, with a gentle tease to all my Canon and Nikon owning friends.

Good to know my K-5 and 16-50 can take some abuse

Keep safe

I agree as well. This is one thing that Pentax has over all the other brands is WR.And a video like this one would be a very good promoter with the WR seals and also how good of a camera and lenses Pentax produce.Could you ever imagine Pentax leading the world in camera and lens sales??????

Yep. He's one of my internet "follows".

Uncannily so at times. I get a kick out of them.

Really? I've looked at some of their videos and it doesn't look like Top Gear to me, more like the 3 Stooges. Maybe I just don't get their approach.

A K-5 and DA* lens combo can probably out-survive me in the desert.

Too bad I'm not WR, gahhhh.. Need to upgrade myself!

Thanks everyone for the support! Now go forth and promote! lol

I already have a bunch of ideas on how to make an even better and more convincing video (a product of many people bitching that this wasn't indicative of anything special lol), to include freezing the damn things with snow/ice water. Unfortunately that will have to wait until winter.

That was the intent - glad to see that I accomplished my mission - just wait until I do version 2

Haha yep Thanks again, one of the best photographic investments I've made. Seriously - almost 90% of my photojournalism here is done with it - it's such a perfectly useful documentary lens
(You aren't wanting it back, are you? Because uhh...you can't have it )

Also, thanks to reivax for posting the video to REDDIT: US Soldier Testing Out His Pentax Gear's Dust and Weather Sealing While Stationed In Afghanistan. Show Him Some Support. : photography
Aside from one guy saying to support the civilians who are trying to kill me and the other guy who mentioned the possibility of my becoming KIA (Killed in Action) today, I'd say a pretty positive response Even got a few people admit to converting to Pentax!

Thanks again all!

Heie

P.S. Pentax...you there? I really like this guy's comment on REDDIT...a post deployment lens/camera body cleaning and servicing would suffice if you don't happen to have an extra 560mm f/5.6 laying around :

Pentax should send this guy a care package! I bet his video indirectly sold a couple of cameras, at the very least.

Excellent good! I found especially significant that you were daring enough to juggle two difficult to replace (in Afghanistan) cameras without neck straps. Good to know that my K10d probably would survive a similar test.

BTW, a while back I went to a local shop, Wings Camera in Atlanta, which has a good selection of used gear. I was sporting my LX, and Adolf, a regular and a guy I vaguely knew, a pro photographer of many years standing (Nikon I think), commented that he'd bought a LX and lenses years ago when he had a gig in the Near East, because of its weather sealing. Class and breeding will tell, both Adolf and Pentax.

Your video seems to have been pretty effective. A lot of people (Olympus users, etc) keep talking about making the switch to Pentax.

Hopefully Pentax gets word of your video and does decide to send you a nice care package. You've definitely upped their reputation.
