Have you calibrated your screen? I've replaced 4 screens so far with split screens and in every case they needed calibration. If you haven't done that, that could be the problem.

ist is OK for $165 - $175 with kit lens

$200 is too much.

K-x is better. But more $$.

Try for the K-x or get the ist for lots less $

Whatever, check the shutter count.
