K-x Memory Card Errors

I get a write error every so often that locks the camera for a while and fails to write the image. Sometimes I have to turn the camera off to get it to work again. Has anyone else had this problem? I've used Transcend and Sandisk cards.

Did you format the cards in-camera? If so, and if the problem happens with more than one card, then it might be your camera, but I'd try upgrading your firmware and formatting your cards before blaming the camera

I've had similar issues with K-x if the card class has been too slow. Never had any problems with class 10 memory cards.

Yes, I try to format the cards often. I know I did when it received the last error. I will check the firmware version. Last time I did I had the latest. The Transcend cards are class 10. The SanDisk Extremes are class 6, I think. Maybe I need SanDisk class 10.

I have Transcend class 10 card at the moment, so I think that is not the issue - Your should work as well. I think getting Sandisk class 10 would be waste of money at this point... the problem must be somewhere else...

Lol. Yea, like the hardware. It's my main body and I use it a lot. May be time for service. I really like the camera and the big improvements over the K2000 - my first DSLR. Now I'm doing paid work and need something with a few more features that's dead reliable. Do I service or upgrade? I have a gig in about 30 days.

I've only personally had this issue with a PNY Class 4 card.. and went shooting in HI burst mode with my K-x..

Btw the Class value isn't a hard and fast rule on overall performance; some Class 6 are as fast if not faster than some Class 10.. for example: Benchmark Results: Read/Write Throughput : Memory Cards, Part 2: SDHC Cards From 8GB To 16GB

The current firmware is 1.01. The last two are for SDXC support. I'll upgrade the firmware just in case. I hadn't considered the drive mode. It's normally in Hi, but when I checked this morning, it was Low. I set it to Hi and fired off 6 or 7 frames - no problem. I'll try to figure out what's wrong before I start buying cards or having serviced.

I was also having this issue on my K-x firmware 1.01. Pictures sometimes would not save and the camera would lock up. I updated to version 1.03 and have no problems since.

I applied firmware 1.03 early last week and shot a 90th birthday party Saturday. No problems so far.
