pentax tamron or sigma?

Okay, LBA biting again (I literally just received a new lens in the mail today!). But, now I am thinking I want to get a wider range lens... particularly looking at budget lenses in the 28-105 or 28-200 ranges, and I can say I definitely have the "paralysis of analysis" going on here! At first, the sigma 28-105 looked appealing due to the 2.8 aperture but then reviews on here didn't look so hot, so then I began to think do I really need 2.8? I definitely want "range" though, and also, low cost. and.. sharpness, and low aperture, and,... perfection? (I know I know I ask for a lot, why can't things be easy?!)

So -- thoughts on the sigma 28-105 f 2.8, or specifically any of those brands in either of those ranges?

thanks!

Put the credit card down on the floor and back away slowly with your hands in the air.

18-55 kit
50-200 kit
50 (manual)
50 macro (manual)
28 (manual)
35, 2.4
35-70

i'd say the ones I use most right now are 50-200, 35, and 50 macro. Just got the 35-70 and need to play around with it some more, but I find when I am using the 50-200 for example, I wish it was a bit faster and could go a little shorter.

Why don't you forego the used, cheap lenses and buy a couple really good lenses. Buy some Limited lenses, DA and/or FA, you don't need more of the same mediocrity. JMHO

So manual lenses are a tolerable option? I've a nice Vivitar 28-105 f/3.5-4.5, a one-touch of Kobori make (s/n 77xxxx) with the A aperture setting. This shot was taken with an earlier copy - one of my favorite manual-focus exposures to date. If you pay $75 for one of these you're paying above the going rate.

I like the images I get from the FA28-105/3.2-4.5.

But as Franky2step suggested, just find a way to get a DA*50-135, and then figure out what to do from there.

Easier said than done, I know. But you'll get to a point where you do this, if you keep buying lenses. In the meantime, the 28-105 I mentioned could be worthwhile. It's one of a small number of inexpensive lenses I've kept.
