K10D flash question

I'm having a problem with my K10D when using flash. Both the built-in flash and my Sunpak MZ440AF-PT incredibly overexpose shots. When I adjust the built in by reducing the output, I can get decent flash shots, but with the external flash, it's just too overpowered. I'm not sure what I might be doing wrong. Any ideas?

Take a double check on the exposure compensation (EV+or-) dial. There is also flash compensation that could be off. Also, check ISO setting on four external flash. Any one of these factors, either single or in combination, could give you that kind of problems.

We're not given much info here, but is that flash dedicated to the K10D for P-TTL? If not, you'll have to use the camera on manual or Tv perhaps, and the flash on auto. Make sure the ISO on the camera matches the flash.

Now if the built-in flash is over-exposing, that's kinda wierd, and we'll probably need more info. If you set the dial to P, set the speed to 1/60, and shoot, does it still over-expose? That would seem wierd to me, unless the camera is not reading or adjusting the aperture.

Is the "fn" setting for the flash set for higher exposure?

????? What high Exposure? Do you mean the Exposure Comp (lower left of the screen)?
