Maybe Ricoh want to take Pentax in a different direction than Hoya. If so, an upgrade to the K-5 makes sense to keep things warm while they develop new models. I await developments with interest.

I have to think that the K5 II was an after thought, that Pentax was really working on something else that isn't quite ready, but really needed something to show at Photokina. I can just think they were scrambling and decided to re-release the K5 with a new auto focus system.

I am just surprised that they didn't include more of the features that are on the K30 -- better video performance and focus peaking.

Probably a processor thing, and they upgrading the processor may just not be possible in that body due to heat or whatever -- there is absolutely no wasted space in those things and heat is a problem from what I understand. Or they just didn't want to waste the R&D on it when they have their own view of the future and are trying to bring the Hoya era to a close...

My guess was the PRIME M was not compatible with 14 bit processing and so they had the option of leaving that off and having the K30 features, or going with the older PRIME engine and not having newer features, but who knows. Certainly whether or not they could have changed the processor without problem, they didn't.

When Nikon, Sony announce their new products, they are immediately available for pre-order, and sample images and hands on-reviews all posted over store websites, reviewer websites....

Pentax however when they announce new product, no pre order available, and no single hands on reviews. Leaving us speculating how they will perform...... come on, Pentax, at least give Pentaxforum a pre-production copy to play around!!

Isn't this simple enough to do thing?

Ned should be fired because of all these (yes, he is retired) nonsense...

Ned's role was limited to the Americas, right? You can blame him for marketing, MAP, random lens price fluctuations in the US. Product announcements and review samples are probably Japan's job, not Ned's.

You are right, look at Steve Huff comment :

This release is sort of NOT a big deal but then again it sort of is…the ability to buy a K5 without an AA filter..wow. Get ready for extra detail and crispness. Id have all cameras without an AA filter if it were up to me because I shot with an AA filterless M9 forever and ever and had maybe 3 shots with a moire problem. I’ll take extra detail and crispness any day of the week and I look forward to reviewing the new K5IIs (wanna send me one to test Pentax)?
