Aperture in Tav, Manual Lens, K20D

Recently acquired a SMC Pentax 300mm F4 with no A setting. From what I've read, in Tav mode pressing the green button should stop down the meter to the aperature set on the ring and set the shutter speed for shooting at that aperture. After extensive testing, I don't hear anything when pressing the button and camera seems to shoot wide open no matter where the aperture ring is set.
Green button in TAv & M (K10D/K20D) is set to 'Tv Shift'.
Preview Method is set to 'Optical Preview'.
Using aperture ring is set to 'Permitted'.
The green button works correctly in 'M' mode and the camera shoots at the correct aperture.
Does this mean that the camera always shoots wide open in Tav mode or am I doing something wrong?

All that is true, except put in M mode -- not Tav -- and it will work. There is only M mode for that lens, essentially.
