broken e-dial? sticky shutter switch? read on for help
Recently I spilled some coffee in on my shutter switch. Well 6 months ago really. Really sugary coffee. I flushed it out the best I could with water (gotta love weather seals) and got the on off switch to free up for the most part to where it wouldn't stick in dof preview mode. In cold weather it tended to get sticky too, but moving a bit would free it up. My shutter button however became a sticky mess, where the half click was a spongy kind of feel. I tried soaking it in some sensor cleaner as well as alcohol. There's still some moisture in there because sometimes it will register two clicks and fire the shutter twice. Big really. Then my e-dial started to fail. The front one on my k-7. I didn't know how I could go about cleaning this, but reading here I learned that eventually lubricating oil gets down in the contacts. Seeing how I was going to buy a k-5 soon, I figured I would just eventually send the k-7 in for a CLA and see if they can get a pesky dust spot off my sensor that wet cleaning won't remove. The sensor has a bad line at high iso in video too.....
So annoyed finally when my edial seemed to be a goner, I read here that contact cleaner does wonders. I went to radio shack and got their $13 cleaner for electronics (component cleaner is the label) and started hosing down the side gaps of my edial and rolled it around for a while. Then I sprayed some down in my shutter button. Low and behold it fixed both the edial and my shutter is far more snappy. I think when the little bit of moisture that is left leaves the shutter switch it will stop firing twice intermittently. I just wanted to write this that the radio shack stuff is safe and will fix your edial if it won't turn one way....
