Would You Buy an FF SLR ?

I've always wondered how many of us would buy an FF SLR within a $2500-3000 range.Ok, time to be honest, and give Pentax a good feed-back about the future,

I won't, just not that intersted in that formatt.
I'm sure some will find it perfect for their needs but i like the seize and weight of my current APS-C, if i want something bigger it's for in the studio mostly so i'm eying 6x4,5 format instead.

No, not anytime soon. Would love a viewfinder reminiscent of my film days, additional resolution, and improved low light performance. However, I'd miss the additional telephoto reach (without breaking the bank!), smaller lenses, and to some extent smaller raw file sizes. Bottomline: I would rather spend my money on lenses for the K-5, but likely would be in the market for a Pentax FF several years downstream.

However, I expect this "survey" will be heavily biased toward those interested in FF --- unlikely to accurately represent the community.

For $2500 to $3000? Would Pentax FF be able to compete with the Nikon D800? I'm afraid that I rather switch system.

I wouldn't buy an FF regardless of the price. The capabilities, coupled to the physical size of APS-C fit my bill perfectly.

Bonjour,

No ... for that money I'd invest in better glass and stay with the smaller format ... the K-5 is just fine for my current needs and hobby activities (thank you very much) - Salut, John

I'd consider buying an FF just for the being able to get two different FoV's with the same lens. I already carry 3 bodies at times. Having one of the be an FF wouldn't be a problem. Imagine you have the perfect shot on your FA 31, but it's just a little too tight. You switch to your FF and have the equivalent of a 21 but with the 31 optics... instead of changing lenses you change bodies. Seems like a great way to get more out of your system to me.

While I have no problem with the concept of a FF Pentax DSLR, I probably wouldn't buy one anytime soon. The problem here is one of cost and diminishing returns. First is the cost of the camera body - at least $1,000 more than the latest Pentax APS-C bodies. I'm not sure it's worth it to me given how good APS-C sensors and cameras are now. Then, as you can see in my signature below, I have a decent collection of glass for Pentax. How many of those lenses will work without any issues on a full-frame camera body? Some, but not many. So I would have to buy more glass - at today's prices. I couldn't collect the Pentax glass I have today if I were buying at current prices. So, given that I don't make a living from photography, full frame doesn't make a lot of sense for me.

Probably not, due mainly to the price. I just can't financially afford it.

Possibly. More likely if it came in, even if it was a little while after its introduction, aroung $2000-2500.

Not for that much. The $1000ish I've spent on K-5s and K-7s is already uncomfortable for me, but since I've been making more sales every year (of APS-C images! Imagine someone buying one of the those!) I'd think about it at $1500-$1600. It would be cool to have a Q, a K5something, and an FF that could all use the same lenses...

Where is the poll? I want poll - damnit! .

I'll buy one - if it has all the Pentax Signature on it. That is, great interface, small body, weather sealed, great controls, light, QUIET, great colours, comes in pink.
