The legacy lenses are supposed to be a selling point, so why not fully embrace them?

When I tell my friends about Pentax, I mention that it can use any K mount lens... but it requires stop down metering to work properly with some of the K and M lenses, but it meters with A and later lenses.

Which is a ridiculous thing to say. Imagine how easy it would be to say, "It operates perfectly with all K mount lenses".

The new breed of cameras has resulted in a pretty healthy spike in the lens adapter market. Pentax needs to de-cripple and go beyond. They already have the concept with the GXR. Build a k5, 3, whatever with an interchangeable mount module to attract owners of other glass or those that cant afford cutting edge glass. The concept is really no different than selling starter cameras to entice future upper level purchases. Heck, start re manufacturing pka manual lenses as an entry product. Talk about a quick and easy way to flesh-out a ff roadmap! Samyang, Novoflex, and Lens Baby seem to be doing very well with these concepts.

By the way, we should be able to see and act on all petitions/polls via the home page. They (may) give us a voice. Many members may overlook these if they do not frequent a specific sub forum. Knowing that you have a voice is the first step in using it.

That would be a really interesting idea if it were done to enable use of all the odd mounts that are no longer supported in the few current brands, imagine mount modules for Konica, Miknolta, Canon FD, Alpa, ... which would breathe life into the markets for those brands of lens, to the chagrin of those who want them for their original use.

But for this to meaningful it would need to be in a mid-range body, becasue many ofthe users would be wanting to use the legacy kit for budget reasons, and to make an interchangeable mount module based body would be expensive.

At the same time, the premium version could be an interchangeable sensor version, to enable special purpose sensor mdoules: FF, APS-C, various resolutions for the differnt sharpness and noise characteristics, IR etc.

That would grab the scientific purposes market, and also the esoteric needs market.
