Wouldn't it be better to set up some kind of voting system or counting system? I'm in.

I'm all for this, it may not help them sell new lenses but it may help them grow the user base and sell more cameras. The cost to add the little aperture feeler and give us reliable metering and Av mode with every k mount lens would be negligible. Leave it out of the K-01 or other entry-level cameras like back in the 90s but K-30 and up should have it.

Someone needs to start a real petition. If Ricoh claims they really do listen to their customers they could please many of them by doing this.

It would also validate one of their most advertised claims, the advantage of having a large library of legacy glass.

+1 for de-cripple

Nikon cares enough to maintain an uncrippled mount on all their serious bodies.

I love using those old lenses--including screw mount.

This poll from a while ago really surprised me about how many users want this feature: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/170327-poll-what-d...cus-etc-4.html

Why even mention screw mount? Adding the aperture coupling back would marginally improve the usability of KM lenses, but it wouldn't affect screw mounts at all.

This would make life with K and M type lenses so much easier. Why did they remove this capability in the first place - to save production cost? To save space?

Features and Operation of the crippled Kaf Mount

The only reason for the existence of this mount variation is cost cutting. This was achieved by leaving out the stop-down coupler of the body mount and the aperture ring of the lens mount. With this move Pentax sacrificed one of its strongest advantages, the unrivaled K-mount compatibility.

Yeah, I was expecting a poll as well. I think one could still be added to the top by the OP.

No one has mentioned how great it would be to use any of the current FA lenses with aperture rings. I'd love to shoot in M with the front and rear e-dials set to ISO and shutter speed and then have the aperture controlled with the aperture ring. Imagine that, controlling the aperture from the aperture ring. This set up would allow for the fastest way to change any exposure settings.

Pentax will obviously be arriving late to the FF sweepstakes, if at all. Seems to me that de-crippling the K-mount could be a great way to give a new FF Pentax body a leg up on the competition, adding immediate relevance due to the vast amount of high quality K-mount glass that exists throughout the world.

Why would Pentax want to compete with its own old lenses? You can't sell ANY lenses for a camera body people don't buy. If Ricoh is happy with Pentax as a niche brand, de-crippling might not be more profitable than the status quo. If that's the case, there might not be a good justification for doing any FF camera. However, if Pentax aspires to compete more aggressively with Canon and Nikon, leveraging great legacy K-mount lenses is a choice that could make all the sense in the world. Getting a bunch of new FF Pentax bodies quickly into circulation should ultimately benefit new lens sales and the brand as a whole.

Count me in for the de-crippled mount, and even more so for TTL and P-TTL.
