PENTAX *st D to K20d USERS GALLERY

After purchasing a K5 a few weeks ago, I ran across the opportunity to pick up a K20d locally just by coincidence. After shooting with the K20 for a bit, I started to remember how much I enjoyed it when I had one a few years ago. Despite the older technology and lesser capabilities when compared to the k5, it gives me those great warm feelings like getting back the first car you had when you just got your license to drive.

After looking, I didn't see a gallery for those of us that still love our older models and shoot with them so I thought it would be nice to have one for us to share. Please post your favorite shots taken with the classic Pentax body you have and still shoot with. Also, please list the lens used and a short comment concerning the pic (e.g. this was taken on a trip to Indiana for a family reunion of a train used in the 1950's for public transport and is still in use today).

This gallery will include the following models produced from 2003 until the beginning of 2008:
(in order of the beginning year of production)
*st D (2003)
*st DS (2004)
*st DL (2005)
*st DL2 (2005)
*st DS2 (2005)
K100D (2006)
K110D (2006)
K10D (2006)
K100D Super (2007)
K200D (2008)
K20D (2008)

I'll start by posting some pics taken with my fist K20d with a Pentax 55-200 DA lens. This was a local boat race event in Lawrenceburg, IN on the Ohio river a few years ago. The second shot was taken right before the guy wiped out which I unfortunately missed. The third pic is of the driver and the end result of the crash and after they wiped all the blood off of him as he was a bloody mess, but fortunately alive without serious injuries (besides a few missing teeth).

With K200D:

This shot is made with Pentax M40-80 2.8~4 at macro position + some extension. NOT cropped Not sharpened, only little more light added in LR.

Hand held 1/15s. That moss was very wet! Not cropped.

All taken with an *istD, and a Cosmicar A35-70/4 MF zoom. These are shots of our Texas Sage, and a wildflower/weed found near the house...

Very nice, i especially enjoy the third one down. Its amazing to me that the even very first pentax digital dslr (I think it was the *stD) still just kicks serious ass. I know most people save up to buy lenses, and I will too as I go along, but personally I think it would be fantastic to have a collection of every Pentax DSLR made starting with the *stD and just shoot with all of them and rotating them.

Thanks. You put some good glass in front of any Pentax camera & it will more than hold its own! And the good glass doesn't have to be expensive. Look at the nice results LeGuillotine got with that old M-zoom & some extension tubes. The Cosmicar (rebadged Pentax A-lens) I used on my shots cost me a whopping $40.

What type of extension tubes do you use? I would love to get a budget tube, any suggestions?

Whoops...lol...I overlooked the *st DL and edited the original post. Thanks for the heads up Tomwil. Wow, Blue those are amazing, where were those taken? kkoether, love the horse pics. I see you are from west chester OH, I'm not too far from you. Were those boat pics taken this year down by Lawrenceburg at the race a few weeks ago? If so, I almost went to that but had to freakin work. I was so ticked b/c I had specifically asked off that weekend.

Blue: Those are incredible elephant shots - taken in the wild? You had to be fairly close with the 35, too!
kkoether: nice work, esp like the horses.

Harleynitelite,

The boats were taken this year a little further down river in Madison, IN on the weekend after the 4th of July. We go every year. I'm very familiar with Aurora, IN. When we still had our cruiser we kept it at Blue Ribbon Marina which is now Sunset Marina. Nice area. Nice shots of the outboard tunnel boats. Haven't been to the regatta down there in years. We went to Rocky Fork a couple of weeks ago. The horse's belong to some friends of our outside of Lexington, KY. There was a bit of pasture dominance going on.

Here are a few from Rocky Fork Thunder.

Thanks PaulH.

Some more of my buddy's Tux and Drift. Tux is the Paint and Drift is the Palomino. Drift rules the pasture.
