Pentax sales

I wonder how Pentax sales are doing, world wide and in North America ?

Thinking mostly about DSLR sales, also the K-01 and Q.

Anyone have any figures or know any sources ?

Adam has reported that lens sales tanked following introduction of MAP on April 1st and again following the fake rebate release on September 1st.

The marketing guy at the K-30 Tour did say that they were very impressed, and a bit surprised, by the initial K-30 sales figures.

But then again they can't reflect the health of the brand basing solely only on one product, I'm sure the K-30 is selling very well but the rest should be a disaster.

Statements in interviews for Photokina have clearly indicated that K-01 sales are pretty bad and have put a hold on any future releases specifically for that camera. Q sales are better than expected and have resulted in a follow-on camera with improvements, extra lenses, and a renewal of the commitment to that mount.

Which just goes to show that I don't have my fingers on the pulse. I thought that K-01 was a good idea, but thought the Q, whatever its merits, would lose out to the well-established Micro 4/3 cameras.

I agree with you given the sensor size in the Q.

Just goes to show you that conventional wisdom is not always that wise. The Q is a good seller in Asia apparently and with the price reductions on the original Q and the lower introductory pricing of the Q10 it appears to have a bright future.

At Amazon, the K-30 is listed at #39 on sales and has been in the top 100 for 87 days. That is the highest ranked Pentax at the moment body wise for Amazon. The K-5 is at #53 and has been in the top 100 for 722 days. Those are body only. With the 18-135, the K-30 is at #73 and has been in the top 100 for 108 days.

The K1000 is at #74 and has been for 50 days. The K-30 is at #79 with the 18-55 lens.

Amazon Best Sellers: best Digital SLR Cameras

If the body only and combinations were combined, it may move the k-30 up the list some.

K1000 beats the K-30+18-55 combo!! wow ! Maybe Pentax should stop packaging the 18-55 with its bodies

And such is the power of having one's expectations confounded that I'm beginning to want one myself!
