Is "trap focus" available on the K100D super? I know I've seen people talk about it on the K10D... If so, how do I set it up on the K100D?

The next question is...is it accurate?

I've been trying to use the focus confirmation beep/green light with k-mount 28mm f2.8 and 50mm f/2.0 lenses and haven't gotten as "crispy" a shot as I'd like. If I continue to work at the focus I can get the focus detail I'm looking for, but it isn't necessarily confirmed with the beep/green light.

Could this be a side affect of somewhat low interior lighting?

Ok....I understand how the "trap focus" capture works now.

(Took me a minute to figure it out....I'm a little slow sometimes )

I see if I'm very slow in adjusting the focus, it comes pretty darn close to being spot-on.

Wow!! had an unexpected result and had to delete test and retype my message, it appears to work for both Auto and Center focus, also it's like the trap focus is like a "single focus" and not continuous, I had to keep pushing 1/2 way down on the shutter button a bunch. My expected result was that only the center would work, or even on auto it would only try and detect a center focus, but I was wrong!!

Trap in focus works best for me by holding the shutter release all the way down. Moving the camera, or waiting for the subject, with the center focus point directed at what you want in focus will trip the shutter at the exact point of focus. I use this method constantly with my M 100/4 macro when I am using it hand held.

I first tested this when I got my SF-1 by setting it up at a hummingbird feeder. It took three in focus shots of the local fast movers while I ate supper, using a locked down release cord.

A green dot says you are in focus, a beep says you are in focus, a red square tells you where the focus is, and the camera can even release the shutter for you when in focus. If that isn’t enough help with manual focus, then maybe manual lenses aren’t your cup of tea.

I hear there's a new model coming out for those with poor eyesight and hearing: Once the lens is focussed, a little finger shoots out and pokes you in the eye.

"can even release the shutter for you when in focus" can the K10D do this? if so how? that sounds neat. I've even read the field guide for it, I don't recall this feature.

Yes, that’s the ”focus trap” function, it only works with manual focus lenses though. Set the focus switch on AF.S and press (and hold down) the shutter button, then turn the focus ring or move the camera or the object, whenever focus is found the shutter is released.

Read Canada_Rockies post again on how he “traps” birds when they fly into focus.

It'll be a much smoother conquest with a cable release.

That's where focus lock works. Switch the camera to AF and if the rest of the settings are right it'll only take a picture at that point.

You can also set the OK button so it temporarily disables AF; so if you want to your focal point to be somewhere other than at the little red dot it's only one press of a button away.
