What's Pentax?

Had an amusing experience at B&H Photo today--

Went by to see if they had the K5 II on display yet (called first and was told they would have it Monday 10/15 and MIGHT even have it today...)

As I got on the famous DSLR line I was greeted by a young employee who asked what camera I was looking for.

When I told her I was looking for a Pentax K5 II, she replied: Pentax? What's that??

I pointed to the big red sign over the Pentax section behind the counter; she laughed nervously and said: "Oh."

Jim: Yes, spooky !
Don't think the boss heard her, but a nice little tour of the store for her would be a good idea...
They did, however, have two spots marked "Reserved for New Product" at the Pentax kiosk, where I got to fondle a shiny blue K30, a K-01 and a Q...

All it matters is if she was good looking. If so all is forgiven anyway.

I was in Finland in September this year and visited "the best photoshop for professionals" as they said. It is near the central railway station and it is really good shop with everything to your liking except Pentax. Not a single item with the name Pentax! I asked them why don't they love Pentax? It is not bought in Finland they told me. Not even medium format film Pentax? Finns prefer Hasselblad was the answer. Quite a shock for an old Pentaxian as I am.

Went to a camera shop in Nashville, while I was in Tennessee a while back...sad to see they only had Pentax branded bags, and the WG-1(Non-GPS, marked at $200)

Appears as though I'm actually spoiled for having a shop in town with as much Pentax gear as Nikon and Sigma.(Canon is scarce it seems)

I dream of having a store anywhere around here that carries Pentax

A few years ago, I stuck my head into a store which used to be the biggest photography store in my city. By this time, it had been reduced to a very small shop. I was asking about used Pentax gear and the guy working the counter said, "Pentax doesn't even make digital cameras." Even though I told this guy that I owned a Pentax DSLR, he continued to argue with me. Um...yeah...they're out of business now. Not because they didn't carry Pentax, but because they were obviously clueless about digital photography, in general.

Let's say this is not a "single" phenomena over the world.
I can't remember how many times when I said to online folks/my friends: "why don't you think about Pentax"?
And they said,
"Never heard of that. Are they making DSLRs? I still would like to go for Canikon".
Do'h.
And this happen among me and my Chinese friends. And damn we are closer to Japan than you you guys.
