Pentax K-5IIs Test Shots at Imaging Resources

Haven't seen this posted yet. Just a heads up, Imaging Resources has posted test samples for both the K-5II and K-5IIs. Check out their comparison tool to place K-5II and IIs test shots side by side.

Looks like a nice improvement over the K-5 in sharpness -- Does the AA filter effect the colors in the image? I'm noticing some colors shifting. For instance, check out he crayon section in these shots. Look as some of the pinks, especially the one above and to the right of the pepper grinder.

Interesting; no sign of moiré on the tissue which should be prone to that. They use a 70 mm sigma lens stopped down at f8? Event better sharpness should be obtained with a 31 limited for instance, stopped down at f5.6

OK, just a couple more shots to share. I'm comparing the K-5 IIs to teh Nikon 3200, both APS-c but the Nikon is 24 MP.

A comparison of the D3200 on the right and K-5 IIs on the left. 1:1 crops so the D3200 image is more magnification.

A comparison of the D3200 and the K-5 IIs image expanded to D3200 size in Pixelmator

As predicted here Do Sensors ?Outresolve? Lenses? there's not much difference between the two but the K5IIs does a much better job on the one white bristle even when blown up. On other details the images are pretty comparable. With a very slight edge to the D3200 but maybe not. But, we're a long way from proving the 24 MP sensor improved IQ more than removing the AA filter. Personally I'm impressed. The original 16 MP image is clearly sharper than the 24 MP image both viewed 1:1, the 24 MP image has defintiely lost sharpness, compared 1:1. And I don't see enough difference to justify addiing an extra 8 MP with each image I take. In fact I don't see any advantage at all to the 24 MP file. IN both the original and enlarged K-5 IIs files, they display better contrast and more punch. Bring on the D600.... just kidding.

I guess with that out of the way , the next question would be, what would the D3200 image look like with no AA filter?

I am confused... which one is k-5 IIs (left or right)... the right ones seem more clear to me.

The K-5 is 16MP and the D3200 is 24MP soooo......

When you display the same image at 100% crop. ie - 1 pixel of sensor = 1 pixel of monitor the image from the D3200 will look bigger.

The D3200 is on the LEFT and the K-5 is on the RIGHT (if I'm correct).

The ones on the right look sharper to me by a long way, even when they've been "scaled up" by 1.5x

Edit: just saw in the other thread " K-5 IIs worth the risk" , Norm did correct that the K-5 images are on the right hand side D3200 is on the left.

Moire is there, as is edge colour fringing and line jaggies - https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/201734-k5iis-worth...ml#post2140464 Download the raw files and run them through your usual processing software.
