K100D Super still on backorder

So my k100d Super was orderd at the end of December from Adorama, and it is still on backorder. I have looked at all the other reputable online dealers and they are all out of them as well. Even the Pentax webstore.

I guess this goes to show what a popular camera this is. Anyone have an idea why there might be a shortage of this camera. Area the magical Pentax elves that assemble these wonderful things on a Holiday?

Sorry to say this blackkeys, but Pentax stopped producing all the K100d's including the Super, and the K10D.

The K200D should be replacing it soon, and it's a better camera. Although it will be a fair amount more for $ the next short while.

I really don't know what to advise you to do. If I needed another camera today I'd probably try my best to get a K10, but they might not be available either.

You can probably find them somewhere if you search hard enough.

If they are getting hard to find then it might be time to shop the old way and get on the telephone and start ringing around

Cheers

There's still plenty of K10's here in Romania. Get'em while they're hot.

The K100D was indeed much more popular than Pentax had hoped.

I got mine from buydig dot com. The cheapest price I found on Internet, free shipping and no sales tax. Try them and see if they have the cameras in stock.

The camera is awesome, taking macro shots with SR hand-held is priceless :-)

The Jessops store in Manchester no longer has any Pentax DSLR bodies on show, looks like Jessops may have run out and can no longer obtain the current bodies. However, another couple of stores in Manchester still have both K10d and K100D in stock.

Seems like Pentax are now gearing production to the new bodies and have stopped making the current ones.

Ritzcamera.com has them!

The body only for $509:
Pentax K100D Super Digital SLR Camera (Body Only) - 19156 - RitzCamera.com
The kit for $599:
Pentax K100D Super Digital SLR Camera w/DA 18-55mm Lens - 19157 - RitzCamera.com

Both say that they are still in stock, plus the shipping is FREE.

I also checked Amazon.com and it gets really interesting:
Amazon.com: Pentax K100D Super 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera Shake Reduction and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens: Electronics
If you order from Photoworld through Amazon, the body only is $429 + free shipping and the kit is $574.97 from Ritz.

Anyhow, there are still new ones out there--you just have to do a little digging.

HTH,
Heather

I bought mine on Craigslist. It was brand new sealed in a box with the kit lens & a free 2GB card for $CAN450 (about the same $US). I paid an extra $15 for the wireless remote control.

Here's a couple used units in your neck o' the woods:

I ordered one from them on Monday for $370, then I got an email last night from them saying that the item is no longer in stock and they are canceling my order. All this after I actually talked to them on the phone about it Tuesday.

I see now that buy.com has it for $375. I've never had any issues with them, but I saw it on Amazon through one of their sellers for $350 and ordered it from them instead. I'm going to be quiet pissed if they cancel my order too. I've already ordered the 18-55mm kit lens, a Pentax-A 50mm F 1.7, and a 2 gig SD card. I could end up having two lenses and no camera. And no way am I paying $800 for a K200d. I'll pay $600 for Nikon D40x and sell my two Pentax lenses on ebay before doing that.

While not a great deal, I do know they have a few left.
Browse Our Inventory | samys.com
I buy from there regularly as it is only a couple of miles away from me...
They have a good inventory of Pentax products.

My guess is that by the time the new K20D and the K200D come out, the previous K's will be long sold out, and I doubt pentax will ever manufacturer more of them.

for the price difference, you may consider the K10D.

Just got an email saying mine shipped. So Photoworld via Amazon apparently still has some for $350 if you're still looking. It is the non-super version though. However for only $350 I can live with out a sensor cleaner.

Like I thought... all the potential buyers waiting for for K100D and K10D to drop in price any further play a dangerous game...

Same here with my Samsung GX10 order.. "out of stock", "waiting for delivery" and so on...

I'm more than happy that I've got my GX10 now....
