Was it always like this? If it came from the shop like this, I'd go back to the shop and ask for a new camera. Anyway, good luck! I had to ship my K10D off to Colorado and I was very sad They took about two weeks to fix it and get it back to me good as new.

Definitely not how my K10D handled its firmware update. To get yours working right, I'm pretty sure you'll have to bite the bullet and live without it for awhile while Pentax service sorts it. The flashing orange memory card activity light is normal. After the update is finished, the flashing light is a reminder to remove the memory card as described in the update instructions.

As for the date, have you tried a new memory card? Some devices store settings in a file stashed away in a hidden directory on the memory card. I've seen absolutely nothing to suggest the K10D does this, but it might be worth a try if desperate enough. Once you insert the new card and turn on the camera, immediately try resetting the date. Since there is no way to know what triggers the creation of this file (if it even exists), don't do anything else or turn off the camera before completing this. If this works, reformat the old card with your computer before putting it back into the camera and then reformat the card again using the camera.
