DS raw straight out of the camera. ISO only 800 f6.7 at 1/90. 50-200mm lens at 50mm. Any ideas? I usually get MUCH sharper pics than this!

ISO 800 perhaps? shouldve shot at lower ISO...couldve gotten away w/ it...

(reminds me of when i shot w/ ISO 800 speed film)

i get that sometimes w/ my k10 also (when I shoot at that ISO)

Hey NaClH20, the shot looks about like I'd expect at ISO 800. I'd love to sail under that sky.

I'm used to better results at ISO 800. The above photo was also taken at ISO 800, I mean it ain't tack sharp but certainly much sharper than the sunset pic! Could it be the 50-200?

Hi Jer! As a matter of fact, that shot was taken just off City Island, where they used to make the 12 meter yachts in the '60's and early '70's. That yard is now a big condo development :cries:

Check your blue channel, I suspect that is where most of the noise resides. Try blurring it a little to see if that helps.

the is nothing in the sky image to be sharp.. no contrast.. low exposure.. a mile of haze.. some 800 iso noise..

it looks just like some i have of similar pink skies.. perfectly normal in the circumstances.. he he..

What do you mean by "RAW straight out of the camera"? Some post processing must have taken place to get to the jpg.

Sharpening will increase the graininess - could the raw converter have applied sharpening?

try this one for noise 100% crop from a six mega pixel k100 sensor

1/30 of a second F5.6 at iso 400.. it could be gotten rid of but it just shows what noise is there if there isnt anything to hide or blast over it..

Work flow: Converted to DNG using Adobe DNG converter. Opened DNG with ACR v. 3.6. Opened to PSE v 3.0. Resized and saved as JPEG. Exact same process that I always use. Same process that I used with the train photo above.

Hi, if you like the colors, why not go the other way and experiment with adding grain instead of removing noise:

The example above is crude: it's hard to do good noise works with small originals (which you can read as my skills are limited as I do this on the originals only). Sometimes grain can add something...

That is a nice shot and colour there. Love that grains, Jonas!

ISO 800 gives my pic this kind of grain as well and it is to do with how much light is available. In sunny day, ISO 800 would not compromise the image quality that much. In dim light, it is inevitable...
