K-mount Problems...

I have been having alot of problems with my new Pentax. First off I absolutely hate the Kit lens that came with this so I reverted back to an older K-mount Asahi lens and it takes beautiful pictures. The only problem is I can only use in in Av Priority mode period. Which is ok because the camera does a nice job of metering I think... but if I want to take a fast action or slow shutter speed shot.. How am I supposed to meter for this? When I put my camera in M mode it doesnt meter a thing? The M mode will only work with my Kit lens? There has to be a way to do in the camera metering with a K-mount... Please help!

M does not stand for magic.

I see below someone has put the link for manual lenses and metering.

One thing to note is that in AV mode, the camera meters and shoots wide open onlyu, regardless of where the apature rting is set
