Turn on Camera With Body Cap

Hi,

I have a K20d (along with other cameras). I would like to get someone elses opinion on whether it is alright or not to turn on the K20D with a body cap on it. I may be just moving some files from SDHC card to my computer using its port to USB cable, nothing else. Thanks ahead for any answers.

Yes it is okay to turn on the camera with the body cap on. I would not turn it on without the body cap or a lens.

Why not?

The reason I ask is that I change lenses all the time on my K10D with the camera turned on and was under the impression that the body really doesn't "care" if a lens is mounted or not. After all, it works just fine with non-coupled legacy glass.

The sensor has a electric charge when on. It will attract more dust that way. Pentax states in the manuals to turn off the camera when changing lens.

In order to do a sensor cleaning, the camera must be on (holding up the mirror) so it must be ok...

If there's an option in the menu to lock the mirror up for cleaning pourposes, the sensor probably isn't charged. I know that on my D5000 you activate this option and then need to turn the camera off when you're done.

I know many people would say I am crazy for doing so but I have taken pictures with no lens on the camera before....on purpose.

I've used a pinhole cap -- same difference.
