K-01 or used KX

Happy Black Friday,

Looking for back up to my K-7. Do I go for a good used KX or purchase the new K-01? I know there is only LCD for viewing on K-01, but this is a back up and really good price for a new camera. I probably would buy it with the 40 mm lens.

Thanks

It depends on your tolerance for 'different' and the lack of a viewfinder. The K-01's IQ is better than the K-x - the "sweet sixteen" sensor is a big step up. It can comfortably go to ISO 3200, where I wouldn't let the K-x go past 1600. Video is improved. It will allow AutoISO in Manual mode (TAv mode). The K-01 is a little smaller without the grip or flash overhang - it can fit in a jacket pocket with the 40 XS attached - and the blocky body feels completely different in the hand.

Comparing apples to apples, the AF on the K-01 is much faster than the almost-unusable LiveView focusing on the K-x. Apples-to-oranges, K-x viewfinder AF might be quicker, but the K-01 displays what it is focusing on.

As a current owner of a k-x and seeing the k-01 deal currently...

Get a k-01

The image quality is going to be much better than your k-7, the size is smaller than the k-x, the AF is about as quick (and will be much more accurate).

I have a K-x on sale so I'm biased. If you can stand no Optical Viewfinder and the odd configuration of the K-01 it's a killer deal right now. If you really need an OVF then the K-01 is not for you.

If you use a tripod a lot, the live view with the focus peaking should be very useful, over the Kx. The wider ISO range may also help.

Feel good about my K-01 purchase with all your positive comments. I also have a new DA 15 mm Ltd coming too Now I have no money left to buy my significant other a gift for Christmas
I will have to see how the new lens performs on the K-7 vs the K-01.

No more purchases for a loooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggg time.
