K-5 kit lens vs. K-x

I currently have a white K-x. I am purchasing a K-5 (classic) and trying to decide if I need to buy the kit lens. If this lens is exponentially better than the one I already have, then I might as well go for it. But if it's not, then I'll just stick with my white lens and use it whenever I have the need for 18-55mm (very rarely). I mainly use my camera for Birth Photography (think action shots and low lighting), but it does serve in various side jobs as well.

Which lens is better? Or are they the same?

What lens do you have right now? It sounds like you don't have the 18-55, but that was the kit lens with the k-x.

Unless you have the DA 35 F2.4 in white...

They are optically identical, the one that comes with the K-5 is weather resistant and has a better build quality.

Yup, I'm just asking about the standard 18-55 that came with my camera, which is white. Just wondering if the 18-55 that comes with the K-5 is any different (other than color) than what I already have.

Oh that helps. I didn't even think of that.... weather resistant is something I might need. Thanks!

It also has quick shift focusing and comes with a hood.

Optically, it's the same lens, but the one that came with the K-x doesn't have weather sealing, quick shift, a distance scale, a hood, or a metal mount.
