K30 K5 K5II pancake or small lenses

Hi guys,

I'm new in this Forum, I just sold my beloved Fuji X100, and will probably buy a new K-30 this week.

I'm looking for compact lenses in order to fit the camera in a small bag when I don't want to go around with "classic" size dlsr lenses

I'v seen on Pentax forum the 40mm f2.8 but on a dx format that's a bit too long for being a all around lenses (I prefer something around 32-35mm equivalent like my Fuji X100, possibly f.2, f.2.8), the option I see is the 21mm but it seems not fast (f3.2)

Do you know any compact lens pretty sharp that I can consider al an all around lens? Also legacy lenses or old lenses..

Furthermore, I will buy straight after a super-wide lens, I've seen the 15mm limited and the 12-24, both seem very good.

Is there any other legacy lens / aftermarket wide-angle (possible prime...around 12mm??) that you can suggest me?

thank you guys!!

p.s. any of you own also the X100?

Welcome to PF and I would suggest that you look at the DA 35/2.4 ... might fit your needs and I really like mine. J

you're going to have difficulty finding an old 12mm prime lens. Though I hear Samyang are developing a 10mm f/2.8 one, which I'm interested to hear about

And as far as small primes go, you could look at some of the older vivitar/whatever 24mm f/2 primes. They're not tiny, but they're compact. You aren't going to get anything around the size of the Fuji lens or the DA 21 though. If you're happy with f/2.8 then there're a bunch of decent 24mm primes that are very small.

Also, my girlfriend has an X100, and it's great xD I prefer the controls of my K-5 though.

I would recommend you consider the Limited lenses as your first choice. My DA40, DA15, and DA70 combined weigh less than 500g and fit nicely into a small bag with my K5. Once you get used to the build quality of Limiteds, it is difficult to settle for the plastic fantastics. My only regret is I sold my DA21 to a friend. I will likely buy another one soon.

I am biased to primes for several reasons. They are lighter and their IQ is far better in my opinion. and no one does it better than Pentax.

Anyone of the DA limited lenses will be quite compact and have excellent build -- they come in 15, 21, 35, 40 and 70mm focal lengths, so it is a matter of choosing the one that works the best for you.

The FA limiteds are a little faster, but still quite compact and could be considered as well (they are 31, 43, and 77mm in length).

Here are a couple of threads that touch on the topic of small very good lenses. Rico is apparently on a long extended road trip, so I'll just post his links here..On the topic of your next lens - the wide angle. It really depends on what you want. The 15 is small and wonderful, while the 12-24 is larger, just as wonderful and more versatile. Its all in the eye of who ever is using the lens and what they want...

Assuming you want AF...

Sigma 24/2.8 Super Wide II
Pentax F or FA 28/2.8
Pentax FA Limited 31/1.8
Pentax FA 35/2
Pentax DA 35/2.4

I currently use the FA 35/2. I also have had a DA 35/2.4, and they have nearly identical optical designs. The 35/2.4 has newer coatings that help reduce CA/PF somewhat. The 35/2 has the faster aperture and a metal lens mount compared to the 35/2.4's plastic mount.

The 35/2.4 is nice and sharp wide open which helps with it being slightly slow, but I ended up going for the FA since I wanted the faster aperture.

The 31mm F1.8 comes to mind, it's almost a normal lens on DX
