The 'i' in SAFOX IXi+

First a disclaimer: I know nothing about camera optics, nor tech. Hence the question

The K-30 AF module includes a diffraction lens to offset/handle CA. But how much CA occurs generally anyway? If there is little or no CA, or if it's within the K-5 tolerance, then there should be no difference between the K-5 SAFOX IX+ performance, right?

Could that explain why in controlled tests there is no difference, but in real world testing (where CA is probably more significant), there is a 'subjective' improvement?

Because people want to think that the newer AF is going to be faster The bottom line is that IX, IX+, IXi+ and X are all basically just as effective in everyday shooting: they're all great AF systems.

Well... I once thought that the SAFOX IX was better than the DS SAFOX. To an extent it was very much so, as long as you are not shooting in tungsten light.

I'm still trying to find some reason to choose the K-5 over the K-30. It's just a different topic from my other post.

But let's just say that the 'i' only applies or is used to 30% (just to pick a number) of my shots, then the K-5 starts to look more appealing .
