Hi Jerry:

Thanks for posting the original image. Frankly, I can't tell much difference in the samples and would have left it as-is, which I think is very good :-)

Frankly, I'm puzzled as well. Anyway, I do like the Clarify feature for the reason you and Trog mention - it's simple to use and you don't get lost in the minutae of fiddling with a host of controls.

"less is better"

absolutely.. which i s why i shoot jpegs.. sometime more than one if i am not sure and keep any kind of post processing to a minimum..

the vast majority of my images look good enough seen 16 x 11 inches fullscreen on my widescreen monitor without any post processing at all..

16 x 11 inches at a resolution of 1680 x 1050 is plenty enough to show any real problems if they exsist.. nothing is good enough to show the imaginary ones thow.. he he he

and i am just as good at nit picking as anyone.. i just try not to get obsessed with it..

From the brief amount of research I did last night, it appears that even Jasc is a bit tight lipped about what exactly that function does, which I'm not exactly a fan of. Call me a control freak, but I like to know exactly what 'all-in-one' type functions do.

It's all good, though; it appears that it just works, which is nice. I was able to achieve a similar effect in PSE with contrast and lightness controls. It certainly wasn't one button, but it wasn't a painful series of doo-dads either.
