First Astrophotograph with K5IIs

RobG, I have been a Pentax K7 owner that has purchased a K5IIs, you will be extremely impressed in how the newer camera handles noise and maintains detail. Also the new image processing capabilities of Lightroom 4 are excellent for removing offending noise.

The Horsehead Nebula can be difficult to photograph. That is a fabulous shot. Congratulations.

After some sleep from being up late, I did some tweaks to the image. I look forward to getting more data on Horsehead when I get the chance.

Are you going to get your camera modified by removing the IR filter?

Probably not as it's my primary every day camera, however I now have a spare K5 I am looking at doing that with, but not sure who to go to for such services in Canada.

Not sure about Canada. I've thought about getting a used K5 someday for modification. Of course, by the time I do all that, I might as well just get a QHY 10 and just stay with the same imaging device that I'm using the K10D. Every time I think I'm ready to move on, I find a new way to keep my kit going and get more use out of it.

I'm not sure how I missed this when you first posted a couple of weeks ago, but you know that the Canon Intervalometer is the same as my Yongnuo model TC-80, which is the same as this: Amazon.com: Aputure Timer Camera Remote Control Shutter Cable 1C, for Canon EOS Rebel XT, XTi, XSi, T1, T1i, T2i, T3, T3i, T4, T4i, D60, 300D, 350D, 400D, 450D, 500D, 550D, 600D, 1000D, 1100D, Powershot G10, G11, G12, G1X, Fully Compatible with Canon and numerous ones on eBay such as this: LCD Timer Remote Cord for Canon Rebel XS XSi XTi T1i T2i T3i 500D 550D RS 60E3 | eBay ?

Just make sure you get the version for the entry-level Canon ("Rebel") models so it will fit your Pentax.

I already preordered a intervalometer, just at the time of this post it was still on back order. I have received it a couple days ago thou. Unfortunately its supposed to be over Cast for at least a week or two. I ended up getting the canon version Hahnel Giga T Pro II Wireless Remote Review it has a wireless remote and various other features like setting a timer to repeat the timer. For example take 10 images spread every 30 seconds. After 10 images wait 1 hour and repeat.

This looks interesting with a few more features - hope you get to use it soon!

I know nothing of astro-photo, but I'm blown away that a backyard telescope (ok a fancy one!) and a consumer grade dSLR can capture such a stunning slice of the night sky. I'd expect a photo like that to come from hubble and be published by NASA. WOW!

Thanks for the compliments.

I've been wanting to do some more shots and January has been pretty much a write off with overcast nights. Next week is looking a little more promising however *knocks on wood*
