My reason for FF

For people who don't understand why some of us want a 24x36mm dSLR, even though we agree the K-5 image quality is fine, for me it comes down to this comparison. Below are two pictures taken through the viewfinders of a K-5 compared to the MX (film). The larger mirror and prism that match a 24x36 sensor size make a HUGE difference in my ability to focus. These are both taken with an iPad, camera right against the camera eyepiece for equivalent view:

I hope to do the same with a D600 soon and post that comparison too.

Please do. I'm on the fence about FF. I don't need any more mega-pixels and the quality I get from the k-5 is just fine for what I do. But I would really love a better viewfinder.

Agree--it's the first argument for FF I've heard that piqued my interest.

I had underestimated this factor until I got my hands on an old film camera (attached to an "A" lens purchase from ebay). After growing accustomed to my K-r, the FF viewfinder was an amazing experience. Focusing is a different world with the better viewfinder.

I doubt we ever see a DSLR with as large OVF as on old manual focus SLR. An OVF on a FF DSLR will probably be something in between the ones on K5 and MX.

Yes, the MX has one of the biggest and brightest viewfinders that Pentax ever made. Comparing a modern DSLR with auto focus will certainly have less brightness than the MX.
